- Table Mountain is a well-known landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town. It is a mountain with a flat top, resembling a table top, hence its name. Table Mountain is a popular tourist attraction with many visitors taking a cable car ride or hiking to the top. The mountain forms part of Table Mountain National Park.
- A trip to Africa is not complete without experiencing wildlife safari. These safaris allow you to get up close to the wild animals and see them in their natural habitat. On these safaris you will most likely see the ‘Big Five game’: the African lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and the Cape buffalo, which are nicknamed the ‘big five’ because they are the most difficult animals to catch. On safari you will not only witness the animals, but you will also be surrounding by beautiful scenery and stunning landscapes as well.
- The Maasai Mara National Reserve is a large, 600 square mile game reserve in Narok Country, Kenya. It is named after the Maasai people who were the ancestral inhabitants of the area. The reserve is referred to as just Maasai Mara by the locals. It is world famous for its abundant population of lions, leopards and cheetahs.
- Visit the Kenyan farmhouse that formed the plot for the book and movie, “Out of Africa.” Danish author Karen Blixen wrote this memoir on her life on the Kenyan coffee plantation after moving from the U.K. in the early 20th century. Her farmhouse is now a museum, where you can learn about her intriguing life and journey.
- The Nile is a north flowing river located in the northeastern part of Africa. It is regarded as the longest river in the world at over 4,000 miles long. The Nile and its water sources are shared by 11 different African countries.
- Located among the cliffs on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor is the Valley of the Kings, home to the tombs of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom. The tombs were built here over a period of almost 500 years. There are 63 tombs in the valley, 26 of them carved for kings, and the others were carved for royal family members.
- Kom Ombo is a town in Egypt famous for its temple, the Temple of Kom Ombo. This Graceo-Roman temple was built in 332 B.C. Being a double temple makes it quite unique. One temple is dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and the other is dedicated to Horus, the falcon-headed god.
- View the remarkable collections of the Grand Egyptian Museum, featuring some of the area’s oldest artifacts. Containing over 50,000 pieces, peruse the many statues, sarcophagi, and treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun.
